We FAILED to get anyone legalized. Arrogance has nothing to do with it, it's a fact of life. It's not about being deserving, it's about NOT GIVING UP. The US Congress has given up on the undocumented population in this country but we, as Irish people, are not giving up on the Irish.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1817240631210825119.post-33067878412888700842007-11-16T12:17:00.000-08:002007-11-16T12:17:00.000-08:00The reason the Irish Government is pushing "Legali...The reason the Irish Government is pushing "Legalize the Irish" is simply because the comprehensive bill was rejected in congress which umbrellas ALL immigrants in the US. Now if anyone bothered to look into the rallies we had on the hill in Washington you would see yes, we wore our green but asked for help for EVERYONE. The Irish were the one & only voice that was listened to on the hill. In '06, six senetors who were against the bill, changed their minds to vote yes for COMPREHENSIVE change after the lobbing form the ILIR . That being said our Gov. now wants to help its own, after the failure on congress's part to push thru the bill for all, so why then cant the other various governments be it Mexico and other countries involved jump on board with the Irish gov and keep pushing for all immigrants. Also in relation to HER artical, why in order to seek legalization must we have had to face "economic hardship, political persecuation & physical torture"<BR/>Honor. US 6yrs here need & want change for all. But all needs to help.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1817240631210825119.post-49934075159333178452007-11-16T11:13:00.000-08:002007-11-16T11:13:00.000-08:00im sick with the comments from this lady.I have sp...im sick with the comments from this lady.I have spent the last 6 years in the usa as an immigrant.I thought eire and the usa had a special relationship with all our history. We are now looking for help to get legalised and she comes out with all this bull.Ive missed weedding.funerals and various family funtions and all i want to do is see my father who is 80 years of age and cant travel.Does she know how that feels sitting in her pritty little job while we are suffiring out here.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1817240631210825119.post-42202819132787267552007-11-16T10:58:00.000-08:002007-11-16T10:58:00.000-08:00The argument put forward by Vargo is sound and mor...The argument put forward by Vargo is sound and morally correct. Serving the interest of the few is rarely justified. I believe that the Irish Gov. should work to minimize the complications of being an illegal in the US in a pragmatic way, ie arrange with the State Department that a valid, current, Government issued Irish Drivers License is an accapted document for driving and insuring a car on US roads. This license could then be optained through Irish Embassy in Washington D.C. or at consulates. The greater effort, I believe, should then be addressed to the great and sad circumstances of ALL ILLEGAL EMIGRANTS in the U.S., a matter that WILL be dealt with when the Administration changes.Wintershawhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17005726072866747688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1817240631210825119.post-75650107792358082112007-11-16T10:31:00.000-08:002007-11-16T10:31:00.000-08:00What is the problem in people coming to the US so ...What is the problem in people coming to the US so long as they work, pay taxes and adhere to the laws? The US is not overcrowded. It is less densely populated than the Republic of Ireland. The people that come become consumers and therefor create revenue for US corporations. It's kinda how the US became the financial power it is today. I wish to emigrate to the US when I graduate from University, but, due to the closed door immigration system, the best chance I'll have is the green card lottery(about a 1-200 chance). So I will probably take my engineeering degree to Canada or Australia which recognise the importance of attracting professionals. My uncle got booted out of the US a couple of years ago after living (illegally) in New York for 20 years, only a couple of years less than he lived in Ireland. A change is needed in US immigration policy sooner rather than later. All of us Irish over here should be working our hardest to legalize all the undocumented caught in this immigration mess, not devoting energy to convincing people that we are somehow more deserving than immigrants from elsewhere.
